Down in Chinatown

The infamously questionable economy of Canal St.


The parts of Chinatown particularly near Canal St. can feel pretty touristy/hokey—particularly with all those hokey tourists walking around and all of that Times Square-esque signage. I enjoyed this wet paint sign (on Mullberry, just north of Canal) because it said—yes, people actually live here. And yes, they have ugly generic typography too.

Man and a market, Mott St.


A market/store on Mott St. I enjoy that—like the rest of Chinatown—every square inch has got something packed in it, resulting in a bright, colorful array of organized chaos.


Even the garage door (I think on Elizabeth St.) gets in on the action.


Food market, I think on Spring St. This was my favorite shot of the day.

I'm not sure why, but lately my contemplations of life have been happening in letter form in my head. So it only seemed appropriate that my doodles adapted to this style of thinking:
