Yearbook Pictures!

At work this week the digital design team united to put together a yearbook for our departing VP. Each of us made our own styled self-portrait, and then we had a pretty hysterical photo shoot for our "class photo." {Ever try and arrange a picture of 20 designers? Not for the faint of heart.} It was pretty full of cool when it came together—which I suppose is not surprising when you consider the extremely high coolness factor of the batch of people that concocted it.

On Board the Comics Express!

{cut-out sign intended to be placed on a refrigerator door}

Comics Express is an independently-published free comic book created for the kids in Joplin, Missouri whose town was recently devastated by tornadoes. Spearheaded by the amazing Carmen Morias, and created by a team of former Nickelodeon Magazine staffers and professional cartoonists, this venture was a treat to get to be involved with. I created my three pieces, part of a series of cut-out signs, by hand.

The Buddy Logo Project

As a team-building exercise at work, we were paired with one of our colleagues and instructed to design a mark that represents them. My partner is an amazing designer at Nick Jr., Jasmine Wilson. If there is one word that captures Jasmine, it's beauty. But not only is she a beautiful person—she also wears beautiful clothes, does beautiful work, has a beautiful taste in design, and runs a beautiful blog. So it was this multifaceted beauty that I wanted to convey, and I thought a peacock was a great symbol of that. Jasmine is really into tactile illustration and paper manipulation, so it only made sense to cut it out of paper. Above is what it looked like with light shining through it—one of my favorite elements of cut-paper pieces.

Here's the finished piece; I really love this beautiful blue-green paper {Jasmine's favorite color}:

She took a cool little picture of it with her phone:

Wedding Type Adventure

Recently my pals Darbie and Jon tied the knot. I took a stab at some fun hand done type for their invites. Above is the whole pile together {you can click to enlarge}, below are the detail shots:

They didn't want to go quite so informal, so Darbie picked a few elements and designed a classy version:

They also used my hugging ampersands as their cake topper:

Nickelodeon Magazine: April Celeb Page

I created this photoshop illustration originally for the July issue (thinking it would be cool to mix celebs & the fourth of July by making the stars of the Hollywood walk of fame red, white, and blue), but my art director decided it would be a better fit to hold it for the entertainment issue.

Nickelodeon Magazine: Feb Celeb Page

The Celeb Page was one of my favorites to design at Nick Mag because I typically got to do some fun type illustration. This one was hand drawn in Photoshop.
